Westinghouse Science Talent Search

Westinghouse Science Talent Search

I came across this because Kim’s proposal (actually, my response to Kim’s proposal, toot toot as the saying goes) stoked my curiosity. Joanna Russ’s Wikipedia entry says that she won the Westinghouse Science Talent Search which is a mega big deal and much more of a big deal back in 1953 when she was the only woman in the top ten (Westinghouse — now replaced by Intel as the search’s sponsor — selects 40 finalists; the top ten receive cash prizes). Six of the top forty were women.
